If a doctor gives you the 'all clear' from pancreatic cancer, he's either a liar or you misunderstood him.

Year I saw an interview with Sigourney Weaver and she said the rest of them knew "something" was going to happen but not what, so their reactions are real.

So sad because I ha read that he had been given the all clear. Great actor. As well as many of the films that have been already mentioned if you have never seen a film called "From The Hip" with Judd Nelson it's well worth a watch. I won't give it away but John Hurt was outstanding in it.

RIP.

gph
I was told that only him and Ridley Scott knew that was going to happen, the other actors hadn't got a clue.

I used to know John in the 80's and 90's when we were both regulars at the same Soho pub, before he moved to Ireland.

Everything people have said about him is true - a real courteous, friendly bloke, no airs about him - you would never guess he was one of the top actors around (until you heard the voice). Incredibly complex personal life!

A really great actor and a lovely man.

The celebrity carnage continues into 2017. Makes me glad I'm not famous (other than on WHO of course)!

RIP to a great actor, they've almost all gone now

Midnight Express, A Man for All Seasons, 10 Rillington Place, The Naked Civil Servant, Elephant Man, The Hit, 1984, Scandal and The Field

That's more great films than 99% of actors have made !
